Ladders to the clouds

There is a legend among the Acoma people that speaks of ladders to the sky. Everywhere in this village are white wooden structures that reach up from the ground into the blue sky. The ends of the ladders are sharpened to peirce through lazy clouds floating by. When a cloud catches on the end of a ladder, a thunderstorm breaks loose. And somewhere in the dry canyon, a rain shower quenches the thirst of parched land.
